What’s up guys?! Happy New Year! Man, it’s really 2025. Can you believe it? Last year saw continued contraction in the sneaker resell market from the peak prices of 2020 and 2021. Sneaker price premiums continued to slide and a lot of highly anticipated releases ended up in the discount bin. Heck, even Nike, whose sneakers dominate the resell market, struggled, transitioning CEOs and seeing only 1% revenue growth.

What does this mean for the new year? Well, there’s a lot of economic uncertainty right now. The incoming President’s talk has been pro-tariffs and anti-immigration, and there’s fear that those tariff and immigration policies will increase inflation. Tariffs and inflation can both increase the cost of goods. When that happens, rising prices often follow.

So what does this mean for the sneaker market specifically? I expect that Nike’s troubles coupled with these macroeconomics will lead to a continuation of what we saw in 2024. At least to start the year. Nike will continue to dominate resell market share, sneaker supply will generally outpace demand, and high premiums will be reserved for only the most limited and hyped releases. Finding discounted sneakers for below retail will continue to be an arbitrage opportunity.
