Buyers beware as the market continues to tighten

Buyers on the secondary market must be extremely selective when picking their spots on the release calendar.

The chart above shows the average change in price premium (% of the selling price is below or above retail) for new releases in the two months before and one month after release. Sneaker performance post-release has been trending lower. In other words, prices struggle to match the pre-release hype once supply hits. Natalya

This week’s buy-sell recommendations

BUY

Jordan 1 Retro High OG Royal Reimagined

Jordan 1 Retro High OG Royal Reimagined (DZ5485-042) Did anyone hit on today’s SNKRS Exclusive Access drop? There’s been a strong volume pre-release, which is a strong indicator of value. While the price has dropped since the initial hype, there’s simultaneously been an increase in market interest. And it’s an OG colorway! If the price drops again post-release or you can purchase close to retail price, I’d cop these. Natalya

Nike Dunk Low Pink Corduroy (Women’s) (FN7167-100) Negative short-term price momentum suggests that these are currently experiencing a dip in average sales price. However, there are reasons to believe this is a temporary downturn and to expect a bounce back in a couple of weeks. Specifically, I like the positive long-term momentum, month-to-month volume, and high daily volume of sales. Bempah

SELL

Nike SB Dunk Low Concepts Orange Lobster (FD8776-800) The spread between the 3-day and 45-day Moving Average sale price for the Orange Lobsters is 16.53, indicating a sharp increase in short-term momentum but a slowdown long-term. This is a short window to sell and invest in pairs with a stronger long-term outlook. Bempah

HOLD

Jordan 1 Low SNKRS Day Korea Magpie (2023) (FD0399-004) Secondary market price has held strong since its official release in August. In fact, not only are these trading above retail, but they’re also trading above pre-release resell prices. This special SNKRS Day release is unlikely to be released again, and its wearability and strong demand suggest more appreciation. Natalya

Crocs leading the way in October

Crocs have been the star brand in sneakers in the month of October, with a price premium (% of the selling price is below or above retail) nearly doubling Jordan, the next best performer.
