Sneaker Economics: Consistent Demand for Neutral Colors

Four of 2023’s five biggest sellers on the secondary sneaker market have something in common: they’re all neutral colorways.

Jordan 1 Retro High OG Palomino

Does less spending on sneakers mean that the pairs people are buying need to be more versatile and easier to wear? Check out the most popular pickups so far in 2023: Nike Dunk Low Retro White Black Panda, Jordan 4 Retro Red Cement, Nike Dunk Low Grey Fog, Jordan 1 Retro High OG Palomino, and Nike Dunk Low Photon Dust. The Palomino 1’s are bucking the trend of weak demand for Jordan 1 High’s this year. Coop

Adidas Pauses Yeezy Releases, But Does It Matter?

Not really. At least not yet. Following the news that Adidas isn’t releasing more Yeezy’s in 2023, there hasn’t been any major price movement on popular silhouettes. The low market demand for Yeezy’s suggests there won’t be much price change from a supply reduction. Yeezy Slides continue to command the highest average price premium of any Yeezy silhouette, particularly the Onyx colorway. But again, not even the resell prices on Onyx Slides have changed. Natalya

This week’s buy-sell recommendations

SELL

Jordan 4 Retro Red Thunder

Jordan 4 Retro Red Thunder (CT8527-016) Short-term momentum is positive on the Red Thunder, but long-term momentum is slightly negative. The strong average profit is what makes this such a strong sell recommendation. They’re commanding a $270 profit premium above retail. This looks like the peak of the market for a sneaker released last year and a good time to redirect cash to sneaker SKUs with a more profitable outlook. Bempah

HOLD

Nike Dunk Low Cacao Wow (Women’s) (DD1503-124) There’s been a major uptick in demand. In fact, the Cacao Wow is one of the few high-volume sellers that actually increased in price week-over-week. It’s also notable that the increase in demand came several months after its July release. One factor in the shoe’s performance may be the colorway’s popularity in the fall season. Though the potential for re-release keeps the Cacao Wow from being a buy, strong demand indicators and seasonality trends indicate it’s a solid hold. Natalya
